Web Project Management

Before working on the graphic layout of the site it is essential that its needs and its finalities are clearly identified.
A survey of the customer's demands is the starting point of every commercial analysis to define clearly the main targets for the development of the site.
In this phase, through the interviews with the persons selected to transfer the information, the degree of acceptance of a new project of a Website inserted internally to a commercial organization can be appraised.
A correct survey of the finalities of the site will become its backbone, on which to integrate the other elements like graphics, usabilty, easy navigation, software and technological architecture. This will also be the starting point for the monitoring of the results and the adjustments to be introduced based of the visitors' behaviors.

A whole series of other implicit dimensions in the site are analysed before beginning the project. For example

  1. The formative dimension
The Website is not alone a brochure in electronic shape of the company, it has also formative values, specially in this era where we are still at the beginnings.
It's a formative document for the visitor, but also for the employee of the company who learns to use the electronic media in an effective way and recognizes its commercial potentiality.

  2. The territorial dimension
The Territory of a Website can be considered the area to which its contents are directed: linguistic areas, professional areas, commercial areas.
The careful study of the target areas will define the graphic aspects and the contents adapted to the visitors to which the company wants to address herself.

  3. The intercultural dimension
A Website directed to a diversified audience can encounter problems of receptivity due to basic cultural factors (in professional and personal sense).

  4. The interdisciplinary dimension
A complex site will be the result of the interaction of several professionals of the Web: the art designer, the expert of the contents, the expert for the software architecture, the one for the hardware implementation, the one for the security issues, the one for the safe financial transactions and, subsequently, the responsible for the communication (e-communicator) that will maintain the contacts with the visitor and therefore will keep the site alive.
All these professionals must work together as a team, coordinated and helped by the WPM, up to the publication on Internet of the final site.

  5. The interinstitutional dimension
A Website is not only directed to customers and collaborators, but is also a showcase addressed to other institutions (mother company, shareholders, banks, insurances, authorities, suppliers, etc)
It is necessary that the contents
foreseen be useful also to these.

  6. The communicative dimension
The Website is an excellent communication medium, because it can offer multimedia messages and gives the possibility to the visitor to interact directly.
Areas like Guestbooks, Forums, Chats, Newsletters, etc. can become the reasons for the success of the site.
With an adequate operation of information gathering from the visitors, these can subsequently recontacted to be informed on novelties and updatings.
